1. Be sure to review and study the notes on the Introduction to Physiology and Biomolecules & Macromolecules and chalkboard notes from our last two lectures.
There may be a pop quiz on this material sometime soon.

2. Start reviewing, answering and studying the questions on Exam Review Sheet #1 if you have not already. Read the Study Skills document under Lecture Notes. Get the phone numbers and email addresses of at least three different students in class during this week. Start planning when and where you will study for Biomed 136 each and every week. Plan times to study for quizzes as well as exams. Develop study groups as you get to know each other.

3. The first exam is Thursday, February 18. There will be a review session for the first exam on Wednesday, February 17 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm in EBS 209.

4. Chase W. is the tutor for Biomed 136. Chase will be in the Biological Sciences Tutor Room, EBS 125 for tutoring on Thursdays from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm we may also have tutor hours on Tuesday TBA.

5. You should be reading the following chapters in the textbooks in preparation for the first exam:

6. You should be reviewing the following lecture notes in preparation for the first lecture exam which will be on February 18th:

7. Start looking through the textbook and surf the net thinking about what topic you might want to write about for your first literature search paper which is due March 11th.

8. The Biological Sciences Computer Lab open hours are:

Monday - 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
Tuesday - 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
Wednesday - 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
Thursday - 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
Friday - 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
The computer lab is closed on the weekends.

We will be planning for activities such as fundraising,
field trips, meetings, and community outreach including:

  • Upcoming diving certification classes
  • Club hikes on local trails to examine flora and fauna
  • Excursions to local museums, zoos, etc.
  • A camping trip to Monterey Bay or the Channel Islands in the spring
  • Tidepooling and Whale Watching fieldtrips
  • Elementary school biology education presentations
  • Carwash and Bake Sale fundraisers scheduled for February & March
